Greece striker Theofanis Gekas has agreed a move from Bayer 04 to Hertha Berlin for the rest of the Bundesliga campaign. The two clubs have agreed a loan deal to the end of the season with the option of a permanent transfer. Gekas joined Bayer 04 from VfL Bochum for the 2007/08 season. After netting eleven goals in 29 games, he lost his place in the starting line-up last season. He went on loan to Portsmouth in February and rejoined Leverkusen in the summer.
Gekas has made one start and five appearances from the bench in the current season. "Theofanis hasn’t played many games but has qualified for the World Cup with Greece. He doesn’t want to just go along for the ride and is looking to play for his country. So he definitely needs to be playing regularly. Obviously, I was happy to agree the move,” explained Bayer 04 boss Jupp Heynckes.
